In this UNIT 6, the student will  learn how to collect, analyze a nd draw meaningful and useful
conclusions based on data collected. Furthermore, students should  also learn how to produce and
present a business report in a  concise and appropriate format to support business decisions.
Scenario:
After the hosting of the Olympi cs in Stratford, London Borough of  Newham in East London in 2013,
the vicinity of the Ol ympic Park has become a favourite location for tourists and residents.
Restaurants and all sorts of Eateries are springing up almost daily due to the existence of vast
commercial opportunities and consumers. With this sort of business potential which has been
estimated to be in the tune of  5 billion pounds annually, firms are paying market research companies
for their support and advice in making business decisions; particularly about the consumers and their
buying behaviour and start-up advice information.
You are an employee of London Marketing Research Company Ltd (LMRCL). Your company has
been awarded a contract by Commis sion Restauranteur (CR), a France based Restaurant and Eateries
operator to prepare a brief of the market, opport unities, competition, consumers and their buying
behaviour, return on investments, risks and advice and other issues on the project management for
opening up the first CR shop around Straffor d, Borough of Newham in East London.
You are to conduct market research and produce a report for Commissi on Restauranteur (CR), to help
them understand the market opportunities and make  an informed decision for a likely start-up around
the vicinity of the Olympic Park Stra fford, Borough of Newham in East London.

a)   Create a plan for collecting  primary, secondary data based on the scenario.

b)   Present the survey methodology and sampling frame you used.

c)   Design a  questionnaire  justifying the chosen methodology. Also explain what security and
ethical measures you would adopt  for the safety of the data.

You must demonstrate understanding of a range of techniques to analyse data effectively for
Commission Restauranteur (CR)

a)   Create a representation of the data collected preferably in a tabular format and present this data
in summary by using representative values of  Mean, Median, Mode and Frequency
distributions.

b)   Analyse the data collected using Measures of Dispersion (Variance and Standard
Deviation) to inform Commission Restauranteur (CR) , quantitatively. Draw some conclusions
based on the data analysis and the degree of variation of values in the sample.

c)   From the data collected above, explain how Quartiles, Percentiles and the Correlation
Coefficient  can be used to draw useful conc lusions in this business context.

You should be able to produce information in a ppropriate formats for decision making by Commission
Restauranteur (CR).

a)   From the data collected, produce graphical representations in the fo rm of Pie charts, Bar graphs
and Histograms by using the spreadsheet. Use th ese graphs to draw  valid conclusions for
business decisions.
b)   Use data from various sources or data you collect ed to draw scatter graphs on a spreadsheet and
create linear trend lines in the graphs to a ssist a company in forecasting for their operations.
c)   As part of your task, prepare a business presen tation using suitable software and techniques to
effectively disseminate information. (You can  apply MS Power Point techniques for this
presentation which should  contain 10 – 15 slides).
d)   On behalf of London Marketing Research Company Ltd (LMRCL), produce a  formal business
report  for the client Commission Rest auranteur (CR). The report should be well structured.
