Understanding Old Testament Narrative

Understanding Old Testament Narrative

This is a simple observation exercise concerning the presentation of the character Isaac in a narrative. In Old Testament narrative, the characters’ actions, words, as well as any narrator comments, are momentous in determining the intended message of the writer (Moses). In addition, narrative writers are adept at subtlety and keen description. It is the job of the Bible student to become a competent reader of narrative.
1. Study Genesis 27. In one paragraph, explain how the writer describes Isaac. In a second paragraph, explain how this description of Isaac guides the reader to make conclusions about his spiritual condition. These paragraphs should be substantive in content.
