Microeconomic Issue

Microeconomic Issue

The topic of the paper must be a microeconomic issue. Stories in the Wall Street Journal, the business sections of newspapers such as the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune etc., the Economist magazine, business magazines and web sites are potential sources for topic ideas. When choosing a topic, it will be important to keep the topic “small enough” to be addressed adequately in a short paper. An example of an appropriate topic might be discussion of a recent or proposed change in a tax or subsidy for a specific industry and its estimated impact on the market. The paper would need to provide information about the market before addressing the impact of the change. If the topic has non-economic as well as economic aspects, the paper must focus on the economic aspects. For example, minimum unit pricing rules for alcoholic beverages, as introduced in Scotland, have social and political as well as economic implications. You might include a paragraph at the end with your opinion about the non-economic aspects of the issue, but that would not be counted towards your score. All points will be assigned for the microeconomic material and its presentation. A minimum of three sources are required
