BTEC HND Equine Science is my subject i’m studying. These are the questions that need to be answered. If it will help I will send my notes.
1) You are employed as a head groom of a yard, comprising two advanced event horses, two four year old Thoroughbred/Irish Draught crosses just starting work and two 14.hh working show ponies.
a. discuss your chosen daily routine for each of the horses/ponies
b. provide reasons for your choice of management system.
c. include an analysis of your bedding choices and explain the importance of a dust free environment. (600 word limit in total for question 1)
2 a) You have been asked by the local pony club to prepare a poster on Digestion in the Horse. With reference to digestive function prepare a poster that considers structure, function and metabolism in the gastro intestinal tract of the horse. (400 word limit)
b. With reference to digestive health and nutritional values discuss the advantages and disadvantages of feeding a range of difficult forages to the horses/ponies details in Question One. what concentrates would you choose to accompany the forages? Give reasons for your choice (1,000 word limit)
3. Showing your calculations, prepare two daily feed rations for two of the categories of horses/ ponies detailed in Question one.
i) Ration 1 – using compound feeds
ii) Ration 2 – using straights
Discuss your choice of feedstuffs, the daily feeding regime and explain how you will monitor the cost and approproateness of the rations. (600 word limit)
