Mothers’  Club Famil y Learn ing Center  prepares fa mi li es  li ving in  iso lati on and povert y to
succeed in school  and in li fe.  We promote strong  parent-ch il d re lati onsh ips  and encourage
fr iendship and mutu al  support among  mothers  through  our educa ti on progra ms and soc ial
serv ices,  there b y crea ti ng a stronger  co mmunit y for a ll fa mi li es.

Mothers’  Club is buil t on two guiding pr inc iples: in order for s ignif icant, long-term  change  to
occur wit hin a fa mil y,  yo u  must reach both parent and ch il d and  educate them  together;  and,   the
most criti cal ti me to reach a fa mil y is when ch il dren  are proven  to  be  most vulnerable and
impr essionab le,  be tween birth and 5  yea rs – old.

Vi sion

All ch il dren  in  our co mmunit y wil l be  nurtured  and educated  during the  f irst f ive  yea rs of
the ir li fe.  The y wil l deve lop healt h y bonds wit h the ir parents and teachers, and en ter
kindergarten  ready and ab le to  learn.
Every m other in  our co mmunit y wil l be  prepared for her  ro le as  her ch il d’s f irst and most
inf luenti al  teacher.   She wil l know that she is never alone as  a parent, and  that she is a  li fe –
long  learner.
Fam ili es  wil l work together to  improve the  quali t y of the ir li ves.  They wil l be  connec ted  to
our schoo ls and co mmunit y, and wil l be  ac ti ve, contributi ng me mb ers of societ y.

Scope of Current  Program s

Mothers’  Club fu lf ill s it s  miss ion b y prov iding FREE progra ms to  low-income,  at- risk  fa mil ies
wit h  ch il dren  ages  0-5.   In a ll progra ms,  parents and  ch il dren  learn  side  by s ide, increas ing the
sk ill s and knowledge  of both genera ti ons and there b y increas ing the  li ke li hood that ch il dren  wil l
succeed in school  and down the  road, break the  c yc le of povert y. We  are now serv ing more than
100 paren ts and 115 ch il dren  in  three  progra ms:

Our core Fam il y Literacy  Program is offered  Monda y- Frida y from  8:30a m – 12pm, for 11
months  during the  ye ar , and  serves  70 parents and 76 chil dren  each  ye ar .  Whil e ch il dren
benefit from  our quali t y ch il d deve lopment progra m, moth ers learn  parenti ng and leadership
sk ill s,  increase  the ir own lit erac y sk ill s,  deve lop fr iendships  and  a ne twork of suppor t, and
rece ive  an  array of support serv ices to benefit the  whole fa mil y.  The  average fa mil y att ends
the  program for  two or mor e yea rs.

Fi rst Connections is offered  Monda y- Frida y from  1:00- 4:30pm yea r  round and serves
approx i mat el y 22 parents and 24 infan ts/t oddlers. This program is a co ll aborati on wit h the
Center  for Co mmun it y and  Famil y Serv ice’s  Ear l y Head Start progra m. In add iti on to  a high-

Our newest program is for  Teen  Parents  on Thursda y af ternoons. This 10-week class is
offered  three  ti mes throughout the  ye ar .  Most of the  yo ung  parents are enro ll ed  in Learn ing
Works, a Pasadena  Charter  School  for d isenfranch ised yo ut h who are  working towards  the
GED.  We wil l serve be tween 10 and  20 teen moms and the ir babies  each  trimes t er.
