Critical response essay

To write: You are male not female.

Read Susan Sontag’s essay “A Woman’s Beauty” AND “Blurred Lines, Indeed” by Roxanne Gay
Consider the following while writing your critical response essay:
•    Evaluate whether authors achieved her purpose.
•    Was the thesis/main idea thoroughly explained, developed, argued?
•    Is the evidence (i.e. Hard facts, Personal observation, surveys, experiments, personal experiences) convincing? Assess how the evidence is relevant to the piece.  Does the author provide context or explanation for evidence used?
•    Are you persuaded by author’s position?  What questions do you have about author’s assertions?Do you wish to challenge author on any points?
•    Discuss the social implications of gendered norms described in both Susan Sontag’s and Roxanne Gay’s essays, incorporating examples and explanations from Aaron Devor’s essay “Becoming Members of Society” (as well as Michael Kimmel “Guy Code” and Jamaica Kincaid’s “Girl”) that support points made by Gay and Sontag.
