Best Practice Proposal, Part 1: Selection of Topic
The first submission for your best practice proposal involves selection of your topic. Your best practice topic should be one that is NOT already be in place at your

organization.

Your request for topic should include:

1.Your choice of topic followed by an original two- to three-sentence definition of the best practice. This indicates that you?ve done a bit of thinking about the

topic and understand the basics.

2.In addition, include a 100- to 200-word summary that covers the following:

?Definition of the organization: What products or services are produced? What occupational groups are employed within the organization? Provide a rough breakdown (i.e.

Management 25%, Administrative 5%, Manufacturing 60%, Technical 10%)

?In your own words, highlight the organization?s mission (please don?t reproduce a lengthy mission statement; this should be just a sentence or two).

?Specify a particular organizational goal/objective that can be impacted through this proposal (this may be an existing objective or one you would recommend). For

example, look at the most recent annual report or other some other public/stakeholder statement. Is there a goal to increase sales, decrease time to market, increase

customer satisfaction, increase efficiency in operations by a percentage, etc.? This project will provide you with the opportunity to propose something new within the

staffing system to help your organization realize an organizational level objective. If you do not have access to a specific organizational objective, then, based on

your own insights/experience, please recommend one that you think can be realized/achieved through your proposal. Remember that one goal of this course is to explore

how staffing is a strategic process. There are limited funds and time. so anytime a new management initiative is undertaken?whether in marketing, HR, or anywhere?there

should be a connection or rationale for the program, something that can be realized through implementation. Please move beyond ?turnover reduction?; think more macro!

Think about connections between staffing and the big picture.
