Computer and ICT have revolutionised the classroom. Today the modern classroom is an interactive, globally resourced learning environment. Research and government initiatives have focussed on the need to for all students to have access to laptops and smart classrooms. However with the roll out of the much desired resources has given rise to another problem. This report will look to examine the misuse of laptops as a learning resource in the classroom and the impact that it has on student learning and achievement. This report will attempt to examine the current literature in regards to ineffective laptop use by students and the impact that it has on learning and assessment. Anecdotal evidence will also be used from observations whilst in the field and from informal interviews with current teaching staff in the qld state education system​

This assignment requires you to choose a particular contemporary education or curriculum issue that is pertinent to Queensland schools. You are to examine your chosen education or curriculum issue in relation to the context of schools beginning with a critical analysis of the relevant literature that underpins key aspects of the issue and the need for change. The practical implications for schools, including advantages and disadvantages that this issue poses for schools/learning/teaching, must be addressed. Where possible, the initiatives and processes that schools may be putting in place to help staff, students and parents/guardians to understand the issue and to assist them in working through any changes to practice, should be examined. This assessment involves a written report component and a spoken presentation.Contemporary education and/or curriculum issue report (30%) and presentation (20%)

Your report must include:

a title, abstract, and your name;
an introduction that clearly defines the contemporary education or curriculum issue. The introduction must also include a rationale explaining the importance of the issue under investigation to schools/learning/teaching;
a discussion of the practical implications for schools (or your teaching), including advantages and disadvantages that this issue poses for schools/learning/teaching and the initiatives and processes that schools may be putting in place to help staff, students and parents/guardians to understand the issue and to assist them in working through any changes to practice;
clear structure. In order to examine your chosen issue comprehensively, a number of specific questions would need to be addressed. Use headings and subheadings to provide clarity and structure;

a clear conclusion summarising or evaluating the main points of your report;

correct grammar and spelling (APA Style but using Australian English);

acknowledgement of all sources with references cited in the text as well as a correctly APA formatted reference list. All references cited in text must appear in the reference list; conversely each entry in the reference list must be cited in the text. You are expected to abide by APA referencing conventions as set out in the 6th edition of the APA Publication Manual

It is also expected that the report will:

Include a title and your name on the front with a maximum 80 word abstract;
Be formatted with single spacing (or 1.15) in Times New Roman or Arial 12 pt font;
Not exceed 2500 words in length (10% tolerance)(excluding title page, abstract, and references)
The spoken presentation component of this assessment will be conducted during the scheduled tutorial times (and some lecture times) for this unit (refer to the schedule). The date of your presentation will be determined during the first lecture. It is expected that this presentation will outline the main points of your essay and that you will model engaging and appropriate teaching strategies.

Purpose: The purpose of this assessment is for the student to demonstrate the outcomes to be assessed.
