For this assignment, you will choose one of the following case studies (AA or BB) involving a child with

caregiver and write a paper describing how you would use the material learned in this course to change
the child’s behaviour.

  The paper should be double-spaced
  Please submit a hard copy of your paper
  You do not need to use citations
  Use as much course material and terminology as you can
  Some of your suggestions may be immediate and some are more long-term
  Grading will be based on how much you have demonstrated thinking about the issue
  Be creative and encompassing!
  DO NOT PLAGIARIZE

CHILD AA
AA is an 11 year old girl living in the Toronto area. She lives with her parents and her two younger
brothers. She has always been an aggressive child and recently things have gotten worse. She has been
hitting her younger brothers and taking away all their toys, even though she has outgrown them. She
curses at her parents and is easily angered. Whenever she doesn’t get her way she will lock herself in
her room, slamming the door and playing loud music. Her aggression is also evident at school as she has
been getting sent to the principal’s office 3 separate times in the last 2 months for hitting or pushing
other children. Also her grades are not good and have been steadily getting worse. She has stopped
engaging in her favourite activities, like going to the park with her brothers or watching movies with her
friends, or doing gymnastics. AA’s parents are concerned about how aggressive she is, and how it is only
getting worse. They are worried for their daughter’s future and for the welfare of themselves and their
sons.
How would you as AA’s teacher and her parents handle AA and change her behaviour so she is a happier
and more productive member of society?

CHILD BB
BB is a 12 year old boy who lives in Ajax with his parents and older sister. He is extremely shy and has no
real friends. He spends most of his free time alone including at recess. He is very sensitive and takes
criticism very personally. He doesn’t like to be in social situations, especially when there are a lot of
people. He is not close with his family and prefers to spend his evenings in his room reading. His grades
are mediocre especially given that he doesn’t participate in class or group projects. He doesn’t have
many interests, albeit he doesn’t try to. His parents are very concerned that he is very depressed and
that his social anxiety will only get worse and hinder his development and future.
How would you as BB’s teacher and his parents handle BB and change his behaviour so he is a happier
and more productive member of society?
