How to write an Analysis Essay

Project instructions:
For this essay, you will choose a character from one of the stories we have read thus far and compare that character’s life, as depicted in the story, to your own. First, however, you will provide a brief summary of the story. Then you will identify the character you will be analyzing. The thesis of the paper should reflect your idea of how the character changes in the course of the story. To measure how the character changes, you will need to identify the major conflict in the character?s life and whether these are internal or external conflicts (of course, they can be both or a mix of both). Likewise, you will identify what obstacles stand in the way of the character getting what he or she wants, that is how the writer provides complication in the plot. Finally, you will write about how the character resolves the conflict, if such a resolution occurs by the end of the story. Throughout, you will use quotations and paraphrases from the story to support your argument.
