Tourism Operation management
1. Having experience of Operation Management theory and practice, your group has been selected to consult on future operations strategy for an Travel Tourism operation of your
choice.
2. This will involve your group investigating a potential area for improvement that your group feels is worth researching and improving.
3. Your group will then present your proposal providing justification of ideas.
4. The learning criteria must be addressed and points A – G must be used to structure your research and presentation.
Key points to take into account:
• You will be required to work in groups as per list on Blackboard, all members must contribute equally and present
• Seminar sessions will be used for group work for weeks 9 – 11
• Roles and planning time frame must be submitted with your presentationas well a register of attendance for seminars
• Each weeks seminar meeting must be written up with key points
• Your group will be required to come up with a strategy that will support the effective and efficient operation of a service operation in either airline and airport or travel and tourism.
• Your group should consider the location, design and how the facilities are managed.
• In order to do this, your group should ensure the following points are discussed and presented.
A. The needs, demands and want of customers
B. Capacity management and demand
C. Managing customer satisfaction
D. New product and or service development
E. Forecasting techniques and business trend analysis for resourcing
F. Operations strategy
G. Managing quality
The presentation will last for 10 minutes and you will have to be prepared for questions after your presentation. The presentation will be recorded.

1. To identify and evaluate the needs, demands and want of customers – in terms of locating, designing and managing facilities
2. To discuss capacity management and demand in operations management
3. To explain how to manage customer satisfaction in a service organisation
4. To assess new product and service development
5. To apply forecasting techniques and business trend analysis for resourcing appropriately
6. To examine operations strategy
7. To analyse managing quality
