1. Pick a writer from our textbook Literature:
Reading and Writing the Human Experience.
2. Go to STU home page on the Internet, click
Library, use Search Box to find a book ABOUT
the life of your writer (i.e., you should look up
your writer as a SUBJECT, not an author). If you
can’t find a book entirely about your author,
broaden your search to try to find a book that at
least mentions her several times or has a chapter or
two devoted to her. ASK THE LIBRARIAN FOR
HELP IF NEED BE. (The book must be from the
STU library, and it can be an E-book)
3. Summarize (typed, double-spaced) one chapter
or section of the book in about 750 words, at times
quoting few sentences directly from the source,
using MLA parenthetical documentation!
4. Use Infotrac or Literature Resource Center or
some other research engine from A to Z Databases
to find a magazine (periodical) article on the
intemet ABOUT your writer. Print the article.
5. Use a periodical index (from the shelves of the
library reference room) like Reader ’s Guide or
Humanities Index or the MLA Bibliography to find
a magazine article ABOUT your writer.
Photocopy the page, even if not used.
6. Read one of the articles found by either method
4 or #5 above and summarize the article in about
750 words, at times quoting a few sentences
directly from the source, using MLA
parenthetical documentation.
7. Provide a Works Cited page at the end of the
two summaries where you list, using MLA style,
