Authority

The objective of the assignment is to complete a research paper on the art piece: The Burghers of Calais by Auguste Rodin, specifically

the Head of Pierre de Wissant if possible. Each topic question highlights a certain facet of how claims of political, social, or cultural

authority function in narratives regarding art and design post 1800. The research paper must answer and discuss one of these questions

regarding the overarching theme of AUTHORITY using a clear thesis statement:

How does this piece by Rodin challenge or oppose a particular authority, whether political, social, or cultural?

How does the piece by Rodin reflect or legitimate the authority on the part of it’s maker?

You may situate the piece in it’s historical and/or cultural context to answer one of the questions.

MLA format. Must be 5 pages (1250-1500 words) plus a work cited page. Minumum three academic sources are needed, websites are ok.
