Hero

The traditional concept of hero derives from Homer’s portrayal of Achilles in The Iliad. Yet, one can argue that there are many heroic characters in the texts that we read this quarter(Bible, Iliad, Oresteia, Oedipus the rex, Antigone, The Last Days of Socrates. How do our texts/authors define heroism? What does heroism mean to the authors of the Hebrew Bible, Homer, Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Plato? Using Plato and any two texts/authors listed above, write a thesis-based essay in which you compare and/or contrast your three texts/authors on the concept of hero.
