nning track and marathon route
Setting out the athletics running track and marathon route together with measurement of the field events suitable for international competition.

Project description
School of Architecture, Computing & Engineering
The coursework for the module is to design and test a measurement system to solve a particular problem. The task is group based with a group progress presentation in week 6 with the formal assessment via an A1 poster prepared by the group and an individual report / evaluation of the task.
Each group will only consider one of the problems listed below. Solutions to the task are to be investigated and tested to determine preferred method.
1. Setting out the athletics running track and marathon route together with measurement of the field events suitable for international competition.
Each group should consider the issues for their particular task as well as considering similar problems and any difficulties which could arise. The final design should detail the instrumentation, methodology and justification for the decisions. To aid group communication, a discussion forum and blog/notice board will be made available on Moodle.
A progress report is to be presented by each group for discussion in week 6. The reports will be presented to the whole class and involve all group members. The presentation will not be assessed but is aimed at disseminating the thoughts of the groups and making everyone aware of the tasks being considered. The report should clearly describe the problem to the class, highlight the perceived issues and give current thoughts for a solution. There should be time for discussion within the class.
The assessment of the task will be in two parts: An A1 size poster is to be prepared by the group to explain the task and solution. This will include the theoretical analysis as well as results of tests carried out to demonstrate the suitability of the solution . An individual report, critically analysing the work of the group and their proposals, is also to be submitted. It should include an appraisal of the methods and suitability of the equipment chosen, a project diary, notes made at each meeting and comments on the contribution of each group member to the final design. Submission date: 12 august 2014
Posters will be displayed in KD.2.26/8 on 3rd December to allow dissemination of the findings to everyone. The individual report is to be submitted via Moodle / Turnitin.
