After reading Chapters 7 and 8 in our textbook, take a look at the upcoming assignment (due at the end of the quarter) that is titled “Obseration/Media Analysis”.  It is located in the Assignments Module, below Module 5.

Decide on the environment where you will do your observation/analysis (classroom, library children’s/youth area or bookstore children’s/youth area). The purpose of this discussion is to share ideas on the checklist you will develop to use for this observation/analysis assignment.

Label the top of your work with the kind of children’s setting where you will do your observation (example: preschool classroom, Boys and Girls Club, Public Library Children’s Section, Barnes and Noble Bookstore Children’s Area)
Develop and share with us the checklist you will use when you observe and analyze this environment for multicultural and anti-bias content, using ideas from the two chapters in Roots and Wings and any other resources you have discovered or know about. (10 pts for a comprehensive, well-developed checklist of observable items – note, do not include adult-child interactions – this is about the physical environment only)
