ENC1101—J. Sebacher

Destroy the Happy Couple Narrative

Directions: Go to a public location, such as a restaurant or bookstore, and use this for the setting, or use your imagination to create one while out in public (Be careful if you do this.). You are going to write a narrative, showing the plot given—don’t forget to show that the characters are “happy” together at the beginning of the piece. You have complete freedom to decide on the identity of the characters (the happy couple), and you may choose to include yourself as a character in the story. Your challenge is to compose this piece with lots of character and setting details. Use the divine sentences, which you practiced during your restaurant writing assignment, as much as you can. Remember, you must use dialogue each time a character speaks. Write the rough draft on this sheet or type it onto your laptop. Bring your 1.5-2 page (double-spaced and typed) draft of the first part of your story to our next class meeting. This is the beginning of your 100-point narrative paper, and it will eventually have a 3 page minimum and 4 page maximum, so don’t rush to get the fight into this draft; you can spend the majority of this homework assignment showing the couple happy. If you want to keep going and finish the story, that’s great, but only bring the first two pages with you for the competition.

Your plot is the following: A seemingly happy couple gets into a fight over a snack cake.
