Research Methodologies and Methods for Marketing Research Proposal Assessment Brief
Students are required to write a full research proposal, focusing on a chosen area of research for their Masters Dissertation
ASSESSMENT AIM
The aim of this assessment is to provide students with the practical knowledge and skills necessary to undertake in-depth research in marketing. The proposal should include the aims and objectives of the research; the identification of a research question; evidence of an extensive literature search and degree of integration into the proposal and the selection of an appropriate research method.
LEARNING OUTCOMES On
completion of this module students should be able to:
· produce a thorough and rigorous research proposal including the aims and objectives; boundaries and scope of the research; proposed methodology; initial literature review; bibliography and research timetable to meet the hand in deadline;
· understand the process required for independent investigations and research at a Masters Level and finally
· demonstrate problem solving, planning and communications skills necessary for primary research.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA AND WEIGHTING
Aims and objectives (5%): demonstrate a clear research aim and relevant objectives;
(ii) Central research question (15%): define and establish the boundaries to a planned research investigation and develop a central research question. Justify the question through the literature or emerging phenomena;
(iii) Literature review (30%): evidence of extensive literature search and degree of integration into the proposal. How does the literature review inform the research aim and central research question? The propositions/hypotheses should be included in this section;
(iv) (Proposed) Research methodology (40%): a discussion on an appropriate research methodology that can support the research aims and objectives. This section should justify the selection of either quantitative, qualitative or mixed research methods for your dissertation and finally
(v) Summary and conclusions (10%): does the proposal summarize the research aim? What is the expected contribution to knowledge or to practice? Has a realistic research timetable been set?
