Choose a ubiquitous design object, something you use on a frequent basis: such as a chair, boots, a bike, a car, a cup, a t-shirt. This object should be something that has been redesigned over a period of at least 50 years. Your paper should compare and contrast 3-4 versions, or cousins, from different time periods and cultures. Keep in mind how historical/cultural shifts have changed or influenced the way the object has been designed or used.
Your research paper should be 1000 words (4 pages at 12 point type, double spaced) in length and include at least 3 sources from print and online articles. Only sources with authors from respected books/journals will be accepted – no sources without one or more authors and no sources from encyclopedias or overly general or indirect sources, ie. Wikipedia, Encyclopedia Britannica etc… In your essay quote from the authors or writers who you are referencing as evidence for your overall topic.

You may also put images of each object in an appendix at the end of the paper. Number each image and refer to each image with (see Image 1). This should not take the place of describing each object in your essay.
My research paper will contain the evolution of car design and how safety features has been changed or upgraded since very first car. I will research decade-by-decade look back at the history of automobile styling and design to pick out the details that defined each era.( Keep in mind how historical/cultural shifts have changed or influenced the way the object has been designed or used.)
The purpose of the car was and is transporting people one point to the other. However, today’s meaning of the car is more than just a vehicle. It’s focused on the user experience and very important object in our daily life. Furthermore, we are living in an era where driverless car is really happening. Having autonomous car will bring significant changes in our industry. The paper will end with how our society is changing to take an autonomous car and what is the reaction and thoughts of people about new technology that will change the world.
