Modes of Fermentation Process

There are two modes of the fermentation process: (1) Batch fermentation process. (2) Continuous fermentation process. In the batch fermentation process the entire medium is removed from the fermentation tank. The tank is then thoroughly washed, cleaned and the new batch is started only thereafter. In the continuous fermentation process, a part of the medium is removed at more or less regular intervals when the fermentation process is in force, and new medium is added therein. Thus, The process of fermentation continues non-stop. By using proper technique, the desired products are obtained from the medium removed in any of the above fermentation process. The process of fermentation occurs in two phases: (1) First the fermentation tank and the medium therein are properly sterilized under the high pressure of stem. (2) The selected variety of yeast is cultivated for multiplication in the suitable medium and this is then poured in the fermentation tank.(3) The product is recovered after the completion of the process.
