Technology Ventures Program
A global contest was organized by Stanford University through its Technology Ventures Program. Anyone in the world was permitted to enter. The assignment was to take ordinary rubber bands and “add value” to them (make them more useful). Entries were submitted by video posted on YouTube. Entrants were people from many different occupations, including computer scientists. The winner received The Genius Award. Here is where you fit in. Working alone or brainstorming with others, come up with at least six ways of adding value to a rubber band or a bunch of rubber bands. You must stretch your imagination to be successful. After the brainstorming sessions have been completed, perhaps taking 10 minutes of class time, a representative of each group might share results with the class. Students might then assign a Genius Award to the entry that seems the most useful. Or, the instructor might be the judge.
