Week Three Devotional
Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were given new names as part of Babylon’s re-education plan to train these young men to forget their Jewish ways and become
good Babylonian leaders. Their new names were Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
Read Daniel Chapter 3
Most of what God requires of His followers is so good for them that they often do what He asks without even thinking about it. But God has other commands
that require discipline, commitment, accountability, and making some intentional decisions. Every once in a while a Christian can find him or herself
backed into a corner.
It was a critical time for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. It was more than “if I obey God I will miss out on a promotion.” For them it was “if I obey God
I will lose my life.” The level of obedience these young men had to step into was more than what was at stake; it was based on what was real. The threat on
their lives was real. The choice they faced was real. But, more importantly, so was their Sovereign God.
When we are backed into a corner, what role will our faith and ethics play in our response?
