The essay should be 2-3 pages (single spaced, typewritten). You can print your paper on the back side of already used paper, or print doubled sided, if at all possible.

What are your animal ethics?

Answer the above question as part of your discussion in answering one of the following questions.

1) Is suffering the most important thing to avoid in our treatment of animals? What other considerations might be important? Is it wrong to painlessly kill animals? Why or why not?

2) Individualism vs. Holism Can the interests of individual animals be sacrificed in order to protect ecosystems or preserve species? If so, are there limits on the extent of the sacrifice? If so, what are these limits?

3) Choose one of the following practices in which animals are used by humans and discuss whether or not it is morally permissible. Why or why not?

Support your position by discussing the concepts as discussed by one of the authors Reflecting on Nature or Jamieson Ethics and the Environment, along with illustration from one of the assigned films or your own experiences in your own life.
