The aim of this report is to examine a variation of the Stroop effect on how automatic and controlled processing is influenced. This report investigates if using colour-related words instead of using names of colours will still cause interference. This experiment was conducted using 20 participants aged between 18-68 .Two lists of words were presented, one list of colour-related words and one list of colour neutral words. They were timed and the data was collected for length of time taken to identify the correct colour. The results found that it took longer to identify colour related words then neutral words. This would indicate that automatic processes have an effect on controlled processes and unconscious semantic processing was taking place.
