Summary of Chris Mullens (2013) article: Cavendish: What is the prospect for genuine change?

In this report Mullen uses his experiences as a director of nursing services to relate towards the section on Leadership, supervision and support within the Cavendish report (2013). Mullen states that over many years there has been a significant increase in the number of job titles making things more difficult for the service users to decipher. The only exception to these job title changes have been that of the four key roles within the medical profession: Consultant, Registrar, GP and Houseman. Mullen particularly shared his disappointment on the title of Nursing Assistant as he found it to be a profession specific and therefore going against the grain of patient centred care. Mullen suggests that more generic titles be used such as Healthcare Assistant as this title covers all aspects of Health and Social care assistants.
