For my School Based Independent Child Study, I chose to study a student who had a statement for Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). This particular child, hence forth known as Child A, has other additional Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), but I decided to focus on SLD to benefit my own professional development, especially in lower ability groups. I do not have many interactions with low ability groups and had never heard of SLD before my placement. As a result, this affected my decision when choosing my Child Study.
As the first term has progressed, my strengths have been identified as quality behavior management, appropriate pupil relations and subtly used differentiation for higher abilities. My further development areas are supporting, via scaffold, lower abilities more appropriately and sign posting progress in my English lessons, for the benefit of the students….(short extract)
