Drawing on what you have learned from Making Social Lives DVD and Learning Companion 1, outline how material things favour the activities of some groups of people over others on a street that you know.

Material things influence our lives by affecting our environments our relationships and the general order of things. Different social groups participate in different activities and the places where they participate in these specific activities can have an influence on how appealing or off putting it can appear to other groups of people. The way in which they are perceived by outsiders can be significantly different to those on the inside.

From the module materials I have studied, I have established how material things can favour and centre on certain social groups and isolate others. From the DVD Making social lives 2009, we are shown how an ordinary street in British society, City Road, demonstrates how material things can favour the activities of some groups of people.
