Anorexia nervosa is a condition in which individuals restrict themselves from food condition in fear of gaining weight. Previously, this condition was thought of as purely pathological until sociologists began to describe it as a condition due to “collection of subjectivities and experiences.”
In this article, Malson has argued that the individuality and existence of the modern individual woman are under threat of erasure. This is mainly due to the labelling which is pinned onto them as being suffers of anorexia nervosa. Malson quoted Susie Orbach in this article of saying that “women are frequently considered to be naturally vain and diet orientated.” This stereotype and misclassification of the entire female population is also one of the major causes of the erasure of the feminine identity women hold.
