In the recent decades there has been a considerable change from an industrial society, where one would be socially classed by the job one has and the class divisions this creates, to a consumer society. Consumer society is just like an industrial one there are divisions which create inequalities. The difference is its not just about rich or poor. Depending on ones situation we have more or less choice within a consumer society and it also shows some inequalities that ones social status can create.
