There are different ways in which assessments can be carried out some more effective than others; such as observations, parental involvement and collaboration with outside professionals. Nationally the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the statuary framework that is used to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe (DFE 2012). This framework is referred to in every early years setting to make sure that not only the children are receiving the correct level of learning but to also help develop teaching skills. The EYFS was revised and made easier to use by DFE on 27th March 2012 and was implemented on 1st September 2012. The setting uses the national curriculum as a guideline to help make correct evaluations of a childs own abilities and to detect any areas for development.
