With the growth, expansion and migration of cultures into new lands comes the transmission of Knowledge. Arguably, one of the most important is medical knowledge and practise. In this essay I aim to show how Greek medical texts were not just simply translated for other cultures but were adapted, developed, extended and re-interpreted. Highlighting how the written texts migrated from Greece to Islam and through to Europe. Detailing the problems faced in translation of texts from one language to another taking into account the social, cultural, economic and religious implications of doing so.
