Czanne uses warm colours such as oranges and yellows in the fore
ground of the painting, with the main focus being the statue. It is almost as if the position of the fruit is placed in such a way as to encourage us to look beyond the front of the painting. The way the statue’s foot is placed by the fruit also allows us to visualise what is in front of the picture.
The modern touches of the painting include the way the statue is placed. When referring to composition, the way the statue has been placed draws our attention to the right of the painting. The light is also falling on to the statue, which encourages us to focus on this image. This painting can be described as modern art by the way the objects are placed at random around the plaster cast.
