This assignment will outline the theories and the findings from two different psychological approaches Henry Tajfels (1919-1982) Social Identity Theory, which focuses on group identities we and us and Erik Eriksons (1902-1994) Psychosocial Theory, which focuses on I and me and the individual aspects of identity; then apply the research to support and validate the above claim.

Henri Tajfel believed that social identity is made from self descriptions based on the characteristics of the social group to which you are in; groups give a sense of social identity and belonging. He devised a theory of social identities and intergroup relations called the Social Identity Theory (SIT), which is made up of Personal and Social factors. Social factors impact directly on identity development by the community in which children and adolescence are raised (Phoenix, 2007, p. 52-53).
