Abstract

The stroop effect was research named after John Ridley Stroop published in 1929, and in English in 1939. The research showed the reaction time of a participant naming a coloured ink in 2 conditions, first when the colour of the ink is denoted by the name (e.g the word red printed in red ink) and secondly when the colour of the ink is not denoted by the name (e.g the word red is printed in different colour to red ink). This paper will report a variation of the stroop effect. The colour words in the stroop condition will be colour related words instead such as sky instead of blue and Blood instead of red. Condition 2 will be neutral words which dont relate to colours but do start with the same character and have the same amount of letter such as sty and blame.
