+1 862 207 3288 The European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms was drawn up in 1950; it recognised that there was a balance to be struck between the general interests of society and the protection of individuals rights. The Convention was ratified by the United Kingdom in 1951 and incorporated into the domestic law of the United Kingdom by the Scotland Act 1998 and the Human Rights Act 1998.
