The term ethics originates from the Greek term ethikos meaning the authority of custom and tradition, and has been the source of over two millennias worth of philosophical debate. Many authors of the 21st century have attempted to further define and interpret its true application within the business environment, however nearly all observation has been too rigid for universal application. Despite the relative amount of conjecture, it can be unequivocally agreed upon that the concept of ethics is intertwined with that of morals and values. The application of ethics can broadly be defined as what is morally right; however its interpretation is heavily dependant on the social, cultural and industrial context and at the relative moment in time that the issue operates.
