Discourse is a concept used widely in the work of social Constructionists when discussing childhood. I intend to explain what social constructionists believe, what a discourse is, the different types of discourses and how visual representations of children are informed by these particular discourses.

A social constructionist does not agreeĀ  with the scientific findings and procedures. They believe that knowledge comes from where we live and how we live our lives which is contrary to the certain facts and objectives the scientific approach believe. Therefore, children and childhood cannot be seen as universal.
