Identify an organisation that will allow you access to a manager. You may use an organisation where you are employed, (full or part-time), or where a friend or relative is employed; get permission to interview a manager.
1. Use your understanding of Management Theory to explain the importance of planning, organising, co-ordinating and controlling activities within an organisation.

2. Interview a manager in an organisation of your choice about the activities their role entails e.g. responsibilities for people, finance, resources and materials and produce:

a) A short summary describing your company and manager.

b) An explanation, based on the theory in task 1, of how your manager plans, organises, co-ordinates and controls activities within their organisation, using examples of each from the interview.

3. Gather information about the formal structure of the chosen organisation and the way decisions are reached within it.

a) Define organisation structure using referenced theory.

b) Illustrate, in the form of an organisation chart the type of organisational structure your company employs.

c) Explain, based on theory, why it is important for your company to have an appropriate organisation structure

d) Suggest whether there are any aspects of the present structure you would change based on your findings.
