Critical essay requirement
Nominated issue/problem: Domestic violence
Chosen Traditions of communication theory: socialcultural
(There are 7 traditions of communication theory: Rhetorical, Cybernetic, socialcultural, semiotic, phenomenological, sociopsychological, critical. Please discuss socialcultural ONLY here)

Students use the communication theories and/or traditions chosen for them in critiquing media representations of communication issues or problems that are either culture-specific or intercultural in scope. (After our group discussion, we decided that we would do culture-specific, which only focused on domestic violence in CHINA)
Nominated issues or problems should have gained extensive media interest (preferably across media platforms) for more breadth and depth in students’ critique.
Students individually discuss how their assigned communication theory/tradition can describe, explain or inform the way issues or problems are tackled in the public sphere.
