Human Resources Strategy Report

For the Final Project, you will develop a report on the human resource (HR) strategy of MGM Resorts. This report will involve research not only within the organization but also on strategic choices available to management to ensure alignment of human resource programs with the mission and strategic plan of the organization.

Report Format: This report should be formatted as a formal written assignment following APA Style guidelines. It will include: o A cover page to include your name, course number, and section, date, name of the assignment, and Instructor’s name, A minimum of five pages of body text, double spaced, with page numbers in the upper right corner o A reference page with a minimum of five references regarding strategic HR policies and practices from professional sources. Each source must be cited within the report at least once. Please note that style format of citations and references will be graded.

Description of the Organization
 Description of the organization: Provide a brief description of the organization and industry: o What is its primary purpose (mission)? o What is its organizational structure? o How large or small is the organization? o What is its geographic location(s)? o Trends and challenges it faces: Although a formal SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis is not required, do describe the competitive and environmental trends that are likely to have a strong influence on the organization. Also, describe the major challenges that the organization will face in the next 2–3 years.
Strategic Planning Processes

 Description of the organization’s strategic planning process: In your description of the strategic planning process, include the role of human resource management (HRM). Does the HR function participate in the strategic planning process? If not, why? Consider the reasons why your organization chooses its particular strategic planning process.

 Description of HRM strategic planning process: Provide a brief description of the current human resource management function or department. If you are analyzing a small organization, it may not have a formal HRM department; however, even in very small firms, someone has responsibility for HRM functions. In such a case, describe what functions are performed and by who. How do HRM programs align with the strategic plan of the organization?

Analysis of Alignment and Recommendations for Change
 Analysis of alignment challenges: Using the Learning Resources and outside resources, such as professional HR articles, as well as your own opinion, describe and explain any areas in your organization experiencing challenges with HR alignment that need to be addressed. In your explanation, include: o A comparison of your organization’s approach to alignment of HR programs that appropriately support the mission and objectives of the organization versus that of other organizations o An explanation of any approaches that organizations might need to take to improve alignment (e.g., expansion, redirection, reduction of human resources) o Two alternative approaches designed to strategically align HR with your chosen organization. Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of these approaches as they relate to your organization’s industry, situation, mission, and strategic objectives.

 Recommendations for change: Based on your analysis of alignment challenges, research, and readings on strategic choices available to management, propose three primary recommendations. In the prioritization process, consider feasibility with respect to cost, length of time to implement, organizational culture and receptivity, and existing available talent and skill. In your final recommendations, include your thoughts on a logical implementation plan for making the change.
