Media History (Michael Belcher)
TASK #1: To thoroughly and effectively explain an entity’s (ex. person’s, band’s, company’s, show’s, etc.) use of an audiovisual medium (radio or television) in relation to a milestone and the reasons behind that entity’s success or failure with that milestone.
NECESSARY ASPECTS (125+ words each) — you must answer all of these questions (though you may order them however you see fit) — see grading rubric: ? What are at least 2-3 accurate, specific examples that help clarify the context of the milestone (i.e. what came before it and what was happening at the time; who/what is the entity)? ? What special attributes of the audiovisual medium (radio or television) were necessary in the success or failure of the milestone (as opposed to, say, the print or internet medium)? ? What were the re ercussio of the milestone for the audiovisual medium? The repercussions can be a continuation of previous ideologies, policies, uses, etc. I=1 How did the entity succeed or fail to harness radio/television’s “medium4network” attributes (ex. accessibility, privacy, etc.)? I=1 According to the Push Theory, audiovisual media have particular effects on social practices and cultural values. Given the entity’s success or failure, were the milestone’s effects as the theory predicted? If so, in what way? If not, what accounts for this difference? ? What trend(s) was/were started by the milestone (ex. musical trends, fashion trends, technological trends, cultural trends, etc.)? Note: A point that covers more than one of the above at once counts for only one of the aspects. If that is the case, simply make another point to make sure you cover both aspects thoroughly enough.
