Criminal Justice Course. All written assignments must be typed, double spaced throughout with standard margins (1.5″ on left, 1″ at the top, bottom and right) and include pagination. These are generally 500-750 word review of any self-selected scholarly or professional journal article which addresses any leadership topic and it’s applicability to criminal justice. Scholarly journals should be self-explanatory, professional journals include POLICE, COP, Corrections Today, Police Chief, etc. NOTE: Homeland Security Newswire, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, etc. are neither scholarly nor professional journals. That said, from time to time, (especially the New Yorker and The Atlantic) will have articles appropriate for a review. If you would like to choose one of these articles, make sure to check with me first before submitting your review as to their appropriateness
Your review should include the following: Review of (author’s) (article title). Article citation; A summary of the article (usually one or two paragraphs), the significance of the article (does it fill a void, what is the author trying to accomplish, do they succeed, is it biased, is it practical [i.e., does it have application in the real world of homeland security], etc.); Your evaluation of the article: Is it well written? Clear? Understandable? Etc.
