Research Problem
Project description
Research Problem is intended to provide each student with “a critical-thinking experience”
relevant to current and future professional activity. This individual assignment focuses on a
question that challenges and tests an assumption what everybody knows of the industry. For
example, in the hospitality and tourism space, questions might be along the lines of Why does
being offered a free cup of coffee in a hotel lobby make a guest as happy as being offered a free room?, Why are hotel companies better-off letting someone else own properties even though they carry the brand name?, and Why would a hotel owner accept a free-night-stay voucher knowing that it will cost the hotel money?; in the sports space, questions might be along the lines of Why do Super Bowl commercials often fail to generate product sales?, Why are free tickets to a game nearly impossible to give away?, and Why do people watch a 3 hour-long television broadcast of an NFL game when there are only 11 minutes of play action?
The research question, context of the situation, evidence-based rationale for the assumption, and a reasonable methodology for testing will be distilled into a written analysis. This analysis will be a maximum of one (1)-page in length, plus a references/works cited page.
