Assignment Overview
Start by reading the paper on Self Determination Theory (SDT) written by GagnÈ and Deci (2005):

This paper describes self-determination theory as a theory of work motivation and shows its relevance to organizational behavior.
Case Assignment
Summarize self-determination theory, compare and contrast it with three other theories of work motivation, and then critique it.
Assignment Expectations
1.Summarize how SDT views the impact of tangible incentives on peopleís motivation.
2.Choose three theories of work motivation described in Gagne¥ and Deci (2005).
3.Analyze the major differences between those three theories and self-determination theory.
4.Use work-related examples to illustrate each theory and discuss the differences between the theories in your own words.
5.Critique self-determination theory based on what you know about work motivation.
General Expectations
1.Length: 4ñ5 pages of double-spaced, 12-point text, plus cover and reference pages.
2.Structure: Narrative style, including a brief introduction in which you provide an overview of your paper.
3.References: Follow Campion’s (1997) rules for references (see Background page).
4.Style: APA format.
