COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course focuses on the process of nursing administration through observation and participation in selected health care settings. Classroom seminars are utilized to assist and support each student in the process of professional development. Clarification of theoretical and empirical practices will be addressed. Practicum will be individualized for each student. Seminars will be arranged for group sharing, problem solving and ongoing evaluation.
Assignment
Students will develop a written list of objectives guiding their expectations for this practicum experience. At each class, we will be discussing how your practicum experiences are progressing.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:

1. Demonstrates and transmits a belief in the inherent worth and dignity of all
individuals through role modeling and the structure of caring environments.

2. Assumes through advanced practice, a leadership role in clinical nursing, and/or
education or administration from a strong theory, practice, and authority base.

3. Utilizes leadership strategies to mediate for a healthy environment and system of
health care for individuals, families and communities.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

At the completion of this course, the graduate student will be able to:

1. Participate in the nursing or health care administrative role in the practicum setting
2. Support and facilitate the organization’s implementation of nursing and health care delivery service
3. Assist administration in coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nursing care
4. Participate in appropriate meetings and/or conferences
5. Seek input from mentor/administrator regarding professional development
6. Apply critical thinking analysis to decisions regarding planning, organizing, directing, and controlling health care
7. Select and utilize appropriate tools for administration
8. Apply legal, ethical, and professional standards pertaining to administration
9. Collaborate and participate as a contributing member of the administrative team
10. Integrate knowledge of current professional standards, laws, regulations, and ethical principles into administrative practice
