4.The International Labor Organization, ILO, is a United Nations agency that is responsible for promoting improved working conditions,

living standards, and equal treatment of employees internationally (August, Mayer, & Bixby, 2009). The ILO is made up of three different

bodies. The general conference is the legislative body, the governing body sets the agenda for the general conference, and the

international labor offices function as the secretaries of the organization (August, Mayer, & Bixby, 2009). There are three reasons why

the ILO states there is a needs for international labor standards. The first reason is that all states do not have and will not enact

domestic labor laws because labor cost will go up and the state may lose competitive advantage (August, Mayer, & Bixby, 2009). The second

reason is that the establishment of fair and equal international lobar laws helps promote world peace (August, Mayer, & Bixby, 2009). The

third reason the ILO gives is that having uniform labor laws is a matter of both justice and humanity (August, Mayer, & Bixby, 2009).The

United Nations and the ILO advocate basic human rights for workers through The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which many of the

standards the ILO has enacted are based on (August, Mayer, & Bixby, 2009). These principles impact international management decisions

because it affects how management may treat foreign employees and really can be seen as a way for management to promote corporate social
