Case Base Assignment

For this written assignment students will complete a six (6) to ten (10) page scholarly paper. Each student will complete an interview of a service provider: For example, a social worker who provides services for military/veteran children or their families. Identify what these professionals believe are major problems in the field. Also discuss with these professionals what have been past challenges, current challenges, and problems within the agencies, resource limitations, and macro/mezzo / micro policy changes that they believe are limiting services for military families. The student will also include in the paper possible interventions or policy solutions to the identified problem. For example, a social work professional may discuss how public policy changes have decreased available services for military families/children. The paper must also include the following:
For example, as a social work professional discuss how you would impact public policy changes and/or discuss how you would advocate for military families and children. Make sure to use scholarly citations to back up your discussion points. Use a variety of citations. Do not rely solely on one or two texts, and not introductory first year texts or solely classroom readings or discussions. Do a search for citations including the use of refereed journal articles and please do not over rely on websites and make sure these are legitimate sources.

The paper includes the following criteria:
1. A discussion of the relevant descriptive features of the case or problem, relating it to a theoretical framework(s) discussed in the course content or you have found in your readings. Formulate current strengths, weakness, traditions, and historical factors. Please indicate your rationale for selecting this person/site and any relevant background information (25 pts.)

2. Provide an analysis of the issues identified above and integrate them into a diagnostic formulary. Indicate the contextual and personal factors that are most relevant for explaining the problem or problems. Please create a genogram/organizational chart/sociogram/ecomap to depict the dynamics and transactions (place as an appendix). If the emphasizes is on a policy or current events scenario discuss policy changes you would implement or provide your advocacy agenda to promote change in the governmental system. In other words, this is an analytical summary section for either the policy or clinical case, and should be concise and yet comprehensive (i.e., depth of analysis) (20 pts.)

3. Provide a discussion on intervention approaches (evidenced-informed whenever possible). Intervention should be included (with a discussion of relative strengths and weaknesses).Your intervention should support your summary (and theory) as stated above. For example, if you do a referral for agency partnership then make sure that this issue is reflected in your assessment, i.e. lack of resources (grading criteria one) and in your diagnostic formulary (grading criteria two). For those writing on policy, discuss agency policies past versus current in a comparison analysis framework (please use a diagram to illustrate and place as an appendix). Alternatively, you can conduct a SWOT analysis or use a Logic Model to illustrate your proposed program (attach as an appendix). In any selection (policy or clinical case) discuss legal, ethical, and moral issues impacting military families and any use of resources as applicable (20 pts.)

4. Discuss diversity (e.g., gender, race, disability, or cultural issues – including military culture) associated with the case or policy. Include how your personal values and views (racial, ethnic, gender, LGBT) impact your practice or your policy approach in the conclusion section of your paper (20 pts.)

5. Written quality of paper (e.g., organization, clarity, grammatically correct, punctuation, proof read and the use of APA style). APA style includes the use of headings and subheadings. Remember to start with a brief introduction and end with a conclusion. Do not use lengthy citations or quotes; rather, paraphrase material to make your point. When you quote directly, you must include pagination and attribution. Do not simply link quotes together with some narrative. Please use Times New Roman 12 point font and double spacing. Paper should be written in a scholarly manner. If you are unclear about APA style, please consult the manual or see your instructor. Minimum of 10 references are required for this assignment (no more than five (5) references can be from the syllabus)(15 pts.)

Assignment is worth 25% of the total course grade. Late papers, if accepted, will be penalized by 10% point deduction per day late.
