Business Ethics Philosophy
Instructions and Tips for preparing your Paper:
1. Watch the PBS documentary “Firestone and the Warlord.” Ask questions after the in-class
viewing on Tuesday October 27th.
2. As you watch the film, make a note of all the names and roles of the people in the story,
especially the key decision makers and the people affected by those decisions. Also, map out the
pivotal events within the story as well.
3. Watch for the facts, events and all the business decisions that created the conditions for any
moral or ethical dilemmas.
4. Identify as many values and concepts that are relevant to the story. (Remember, your values
may affect the way you interpret the facts and the story.)
5. Identify as many of the most important moral or ethical dilemmas as you can for the key
participants and decision makers in the story.
6. Try and resolve the moral or ethical dilemmas raised by their choices by using an ethical
system or some other means of decision making and rational argument.
Read Carefully:
– The paper should be handed in during class, not emailed. It should be no more than 5
pages long. It should be double spaced and in 12 point Times New Roman font. (If you
cannot make it to class that day, then the paper must be handed in class on an earlier date
or in my mail box before 11:30AM on the due date.)
THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS FOR
THE DUE DATE. If the paper is handed in late, the grade is an automatic D. (Early is
fine, but make sure you hold on to an electronic copy.)
