Scenarios below:
Your role: Case Manager
Scenario: A 24-year-old mother has unexpectedly passed away, leaving two young children. The children’s father was killed a year prior. Social worker has approved the maternal grandmother as a suitable placement for the children. Maternal grandmother is in her early 50s, works full-time, and lives in a studio apartment. As part of your job responsibility you guide the grandmother through the legal proceedings of obtaining legal guardianship of both children, finding suitable housing, and obtaining subsidies for child care. After the case plan has been completed, you return to your office to find a very heartfelt thank you card with $100 enclosed. What do you do with the money?
Your role: Program Director Scenario: Your program serves youth who are transitioning out of the delinquency system. Your case
managers help youth to find vocational training and job placement. One young man has recently graduated from an electrician program and is in the process of interviewing with a number of companies. He has shown great potential and is a “model” client. He is struggling financially while waiting for a job offer. Your program has recently expanded and is taking over the suite next door to your current location; you are just waiting for renovations to be complete. The young man asks if he can do some side work wiring up your new location. What do you do?
Your role: Recreational Staff Scenario: You recently went out to dinner with a group of friends and acquaintances, including a
therapist who works with young children who are emotionally disturbed. During dinner, the therapist asks you about the behavior of a child in your program. She says that the child’s mother has asked her to visit your site to observe the child’s behavior and interactions with other children, and naturally she was interested in your opinion. What do you do?
Your role: Case Manager Scenario: One of your clients, an 18-year-old in the foster care system, has recently found out that she is
pregnant. Her pregnancy requires that she be moved out of the group home she is currently living in. She has decided she will move in with her boyfriend. This will terminate her services with the child welfare system, but she is still eligible for support as an independent adult and through community-based services, like your program. She wants to have a baby shower so she can start preparing for the new baby. She asks you for help. What do you do?
