Discuss general exercise guidelines clearly identifying realistic and achievable 12 week goals. Link to professional body recommendations. Discuss the reasoning for these recommendations and remember to highlight any contraindicated exercises. Remember to take into account any exercise related risks for your client group. In addition, how would you monitor your clients during exercise sessions, what would watch out for ? If you wish you may sub-divide this section into the following sections : Intensity, Duration, mode, frequency, progression. Identify other factors, which may influence the exercise prescription e.g. contraindicated exercises, specific medical considerations. Quote supporting literature. Detail a 12 week training programme.<br />

Mrs. PD is a part time accountant who is married with two children. She and her GP have become concerned about her general physical condition, although her medical history is unremarkable she has been diagnosed with type II diabetes (prescribed Metformin by her GP for this) and stage 1 hypertension (no medication) . She does have a family history of cardiovascular disease as her mother suffered a non-fatal heart attack when she was 61 yr. <br />
<br />
Her job is wholly sedentary and, after work and domestic responsibilities, feels she has little time to exercise. She doesn’t exercise at the moment but does walk the family dog twice daily although she would like to become more physically active as the rest of her family regularly cycle and swim. She has reservations about being referred onto an exercise prescription programme due to aforementioned time constraints and she believes also the scheme will only include gym based exercise. She has discussed becoming more active with her husband who is very supportive of this.<br />
